NYU Department of Sociology
Located in SoHo's iconic Puck Building, the NYU Department of Sociology takes up the entire fifth floor, nearly 20,000-square-feet. Marvel's renovation helped open the space for increased interaction and egagement of students and faculty, while supporting the needs of a modern workspace.
Design strategies included integrating historic architectural elements such as vaulted ceilings, cast iron columns, and brick walls, into modern, fully equipped workspaces.
Spaces are designed to feel bigger and healthier by filtering light from the perimeter offices into the interior hallways and meeting rooms through translucent glass doors and windows.
Faculty offices and student seminar rooms were connected by generous, occupiable corridors and communal areas were designed to stimulate academic and social interaction.
